Janne Liuko – Bio

Janne joined Kind Atom after leading the plant owner’s technical organization in a major nuclear green-field project. He is a member of the advisory team and acts as the technology advisor.

As our technology advisor, Janne supports customers in all safety and performance aspects related to nuclear plants and units. His scope of competence ranges from site and licensing matters to plant engineering, implementation quality and operational performance.

Janne has a MSc degree both in technology (2008) and in economics and business administration (2013). He is born in 1981, lives in Sipoo (Finland), and has a wife and three children.

Janne is passionate about all kinds of endurance sports from trail running to cross-country skiing, cycling and orienteering.

 

Career and experience

Janne (LinkedIn) carries over 15 years of experience in the nuclear industry including expert duties (5 years) and management positions (over 10 years):

  • Leading the technical organization and utility operations in the plant owner’s organization with about 200 engineers reviewing the full basic design and licensing documentation delivered by the plant supplier, resulting in a PSAR submitted to regulatory review (Fennovoima, 2020-2022);

  • Leading the nuclear safety department of the owner’s organization with about 50 engineers evaluating the safety and nuclear design of a new site and plant design, preparing for fuel and waste management and carrying out operational security and safeguards activities (Fennovoima, 2018-2019);

  • Leading the licensing project in a new-build program with particular focus on the interplay between the regulator, the owner and the supplier (Fennovoima, 2015-2017);

  • Managing safety analyses in the new owner’s organization covering safety and risk analyses and also a wide range of related preparations for a new plant supply contract, environmental impact assessment and project time schedule (Fennovoima, 2012-2014);

  • Managing marketing and sales of engineering and support services covering the full plant life cycle, as directed to more than 25 countries (Fortum, 2010-2011);

  • Performing design engineer duties on development of emergency operating procedures, complemented by a trainee period on electricity sales to large customers (2008-2009);

  • Carrying out regulatory oversight inspections on radiation safety and participating in probabilistic risk assessment studies (STUK, 2006-2007).
