Program planning with five main modules

  • Here we want to make sure we understand your main business case. If you are in the process of developing the business case, we could contribute to ensuring its financial and technological feasibility.

  • Here we will prepare the owner’s program plan, based on preceding core team workshops and further discussions with you and your team. We intend to keep the plan simple yet covering all necessary aspects.

Depending on your needs, we may adopt the seven-stream planning model shown in the figure below (with a 7x7 content matrix) or take a different approach according to your needs and preferences.

  • As typical for a new program, licensing forms a key enabler, hence we are ready to support you in planning the licensing track also.

  • Here we will prepare a financially oriented business risk analysis over your program, based on the first-order risk mapping from the core team workshops. The analysis will cover both downsides and upsides.

Risk analysis will become an appendix to the program plan including risk impact estimates that are continuously updated and therefore kept separate from the main program plan descriptions.

  • When the program plan and related risk analysis are clear, a suitable management system can be set up. It is important to avoid complexity in the preparation phase, and to increase the level of rigor step-wise when moving ahead. The focus needs to be on a system suitable for the owner’s operations.

The management system may be divided, e.g., into leadership and people; organization and functions; management and decisions; and processes and tools. With a clever setup, the top-level processes enable distributed scale-up where different organizational functions develop their own manuals, procedures and instructions.

We can help you in planning and developing your management system from the early phases up to nuclear commissioning and operation, so that it will be in par with the main targets and critical owner’s duties at each program phase.

  • The information flow is huge in a nuclear program or a major project. It varies from preparatory-phase activities to construction-phase project dynamics and operation-phase asset and work order management. By digitizing the interactions in a user-friendly way, you can energize your projects.

We have a lot of experience in digitizing operations related to technical safety and quality, including owner’s activities and those of suppliers and third parties. Therefore, we recommend to explore these aspects early on, and we are eager to support in this too.

  • We can take care of updating the program plan and risk analyses for an agreed period of time or as part of a more continuous support for your program reporting and execution.

This matrix visualizes the contents that we need to work through when preparing the owner’s program plan. The highlighted diagonal shows one possible sequence of decision making where the business case is locked first and other decisions will follow. At the end, there is the resulting production time and cost, the risks of which are assessed already when planning for investment.
