Fresh recipes for leading nuclear new build (28 June 2022)
A new company Kind Atom Oy has been founded to support the planning, orchestration and execution of nuclear new-build programs and projects. The company is based in Helsinki, Finland, with the targeted customer base covering both domestic and foreign projects.
Kind Atom is fully technology and supplier neutral and has an extensive experience in managing the expectations from the owner’s, supplier’s and regulator’s perspectives. The related advisory is directed to creating a firm grip over the projects so that the investors, operators and production customers can rely on successful project execution.
Kind Atom’s advisory team consists of Timo Okkonen, Janne Liuko (as of 1.8.2022), Sakari Kotola (as of 1.9.2022) and Ville Välikangas. Timo is responsible for programs and projects, Janne for technology and plant performance, Sakari for stakeholder and community cohesion, and Ville for digital project solutions. “We worked together in the management team of Fennovoima during years 2019 – 2020, finding out that we shared the same values and could solve all kinds of issues together”, conclude Janne Liuko and Timo Okkonen. And Timo adds: “For more than a year now, I have been advising the Fermi Energia management in Estonia. It’s been great to use all the experience in facilitating technology evaluations and program planning for this vital SMR deployment.”
The core competence of Kind Atom is to provide clarity and simplicity on what is truly crucial in different project phases. This will enable organizations to remain sharp in the subject matter but also kind and responsive to each other’s needs. The unique approach by Kind Atom advisors has been proven to lead to project acceleration.
Although the use of nuclear energy will remain a clearly national matter, the future offers many international synergies. Kind Atom is bringing one cornerstone to the emerging ecosystem that needs to be able to meet stakeholder expectations for both the nuclear and radiological safety and the economy and security of supply.
“Our world cries for kindness and clean energy more than ever, so we truly have to get going to make the difference”, says Timo Okkonen; and Janne Liuko continues that “the different players need to share the big picture, be clear with their needs with respect to others, and work together to ensure safety and progress at the same time.”
