Kärnfull Next and Kind Atom join forces (30 June 2022)
Kärnfull Next AB and Kind Atom Oy share the vision on Fossil Freedom and the associated need to help customers in accelerating nuclear new-build projects with the use of new SMR (small modular reactor) technology. The two companies have therefore signed a Letter of Intent to form a strong pan-Nordic atomic alliance with cross-company collaboration and ownership.
Sweden’s Kärnfull Next and Finland’s Kind Atom have diverse backgrounds and different expertise areas that complement their respective offerings. The two companies cover all aspects from project financing models and feasibility to full program execution and licensable technical solutions. Together with local partners and technology vendors, the companies can support all customers with nuclear new build.
”Together we share the commitment, the values and a strong drive to accelerate new projects”, says John Ahlberg, founder of Kärnfull Next. “We are constantly meeting new customers with a great demand for new carbon-free production. As multiple SMR projects now evolve, we wanted to boost our offer with a strong, experienced delivery expertise team. With Kind Atom we have secured the Nordic’s very best.”
“This is so much more than one plus one”, says Timo Okkonen, founder of Kind Atom and former COO of Fennovoima with a long nuclear career. “The project development and financing expertise of Kärnfull Next is driving the development close to customers’ decision makers. We come into the picture by planning and orchestrating the programs. We are excited as there are projects already under preparation.”
In a joint statement John and Timo add: “It’s all about making our world healthy and sustainable for the coming generations. This purpose makes us work hard for the benefit of our customers and societies in the Nordic market. Together, we are ready to take on any project development challenge whether related to electricity generation, district heating, hydrogen generation or other way of deploying the SMRs.”
